What is Beauty?

What is beauty? Is it your flowing mane, your short, petite frame, your draping arms and legs, glowing skin, deepening eyes or appetizing rounds?

One can measure the aesthetic obsession that another demands, but the determination of beauty relies in the soul of each ranging being.

Big or small short or wide, no two look at any form of creation the same. Though one may claim a mass decision on a form or image can be declared beautiful, what is to say one truly, at any verifiable amount to the point of absolution is meaningful in that said determination.

In fact, what is the actual definition of beauty. A beautiful soul cannot be measured by any aesthetic principle. A beautiful moment, dream, feeling, or relationship relies completely and fully on the being determining that definition. Which can be agreed upon, but not to absolution.

What is your Muse?

How to explain the difference between a muse and inspiration?

A muse was defined by the ancients as a goddess presiding over art.

Inspiration is an idea.

But to use a muse to create, brings these two elements together and they become a simultaneous marriage of fuel for an artist.

And fuel is a precious element.

Release

Art allows you to visit a place in your soul, in your emotional realm that you may not have known existed, not wanted to visit, or forgot was there. When you view or create art you allow your intellect and emotion to join together and make sense with one another. Where else in reality does that occur?

Salvador Dali, Soft Construction With Boiled Beans (Premonition of Civil War),1936, oil on canvas.

What is art?

This timeless questions haunts every artist, aesthetic, and creative process. Is it the process itself? The emotion when the artist is creating? Is it the emotion evoked when the "art" is finished? The viewer's vision? The artist's vision?

Plato.
felt that art is imitation, therefore...bad.

Aristotle.
felt that art is imitation, therefore...good.

Leo Tolstoy, What is Art? 1898.
Art is that human activity which consists in one human consciously conveying to others, by certain external signs, the feelings he has experienced, and in others being affected by those feelings and also experiencing them.

So what does this mean?
Philosophers, artists, scientists, normal people, all argue constantly about how to define art.

So is this art? >
Fountain by Marcel
Duchamp

if it is...is this Death of Cleopatra - Jean Andre Rixens, also art?

Can the two be compared on
the same aesthetic principles?
ponder.

art is emotion, expressed. - lost girl
